In connection with the renovation of the regional veterinary hospital at Bagarmossen in 2006, a separate intensive care unit was built and equipped. The Foundation supported this project financially. This unit treats severely ill or injured animals in need of close monitoring, specialist treatment and nursing. The unit contains advanced medical equipment and staff are available around the clock.
However, the equipment has deteriorated over the years, while intensive and emergency care technology has advanced extensively. The Foundation has therefore allocated funds for new, modern equipment and an expansion of the unit’s capacity. This conversion will take place during winter 2016/2017.
Around 3,000 dogs and cats are treated at the intensive care unit annually, with their condition being monitored continuously around the clock, at times as frequently as minute to minute.
